Our History
Red Rooster Bar and Grill was established in 1975 and quickly became a staple establishment of central Minnesota. The bar initially became well-known for the pranks and antics of the original owner Dennis “Hup” Hoheisel, his brothers Kenny and Roger (“Hulio”) and his band of chaos coordinators, including Gary and Jerry (“Old Man”). Without these gentlemen, the Red Rooster wouldn’t be what it is today. The Red Rooster’s original location was in a building across the street from the Rooster’s current, but in 1999 moved to its current location.
In 2008, Hup and his wife Linda decided to retire from the service industry after 33 years. New owners Mary and Kelly, Kalvin and Becky (and later just Mary and Kelly), owned the bar from 2008 until current owners Amy and Courtney Guck purchased the Rooster in 2019.
About the Owners
Amy and Courtney Guck have owned the Red Rooster Bar and Grill since 2019, a purchase they made just six months before the COVID pandemic shut down businesses across the United States. Before the Rooster, Amy spent 20 years working for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe at Grand Casino Mille Lacs in numerous departments including Human Resources and Legal. Courtney brings 20+ years of retail experience to the Rooster and when not at the business, can be found in the high school classroom working with students or at the home farm tending to his Scottish Highland cattle.
The Red Rooster Values
Brands We’ve Partnered With
We’re happy to announce our partnerships with Thielen’s Meats of Pierz and Grey Duck Spirits, both Minnesota-owned companies. We’re bringing our award-winning Bloody Mary to the next level through these partnerships. Our famous Bloody Mary Mix, along with Red Rooster’s renowned horseradish pickles, will now be hitting store shelves in the spring of 2026. We stick true to our roots and keep our cocktails and burgers local, just like our partnerships.
Community Organizations We Support
The Red Rooster strategically partners with a number of local organizations to give back to our community. Highest on the priority list is giving to organizations that support the youth within our community. We are very pleased to have had a 20+ year relationship with the Eastern Morrison Four Wheeler Club, an organization that also prioritizes giving back to the community and has provided secondary education scholarships to high school students and supported youth programs such as ATV and gun safety training.
